With
the upcoming Job Fair in Ogdensburg, I thought it would be a good time to
review some very basic Career Fair etiquette and best practices so you can
maximize your opportunities.
Before the Job
Fair:
you need to do your homework and make sure you have adequately prepared
yourself. Make sure you have a general
resume prepared and have had someone else review it for errors. Then review who will be at the job fair and
what positions they have listed. With
this information, create targeted resume for these specific openings at those
specific employers. Since no plan
survives first contact, make sure to also print out some extra general resumes
for those employers that show up last minute.
Business cards are also useful as a way for individuals to save your
contact info. Most employers will get
this info from the targeted resume you give them; however, these are great for
networking with other job searchers that may know of an opportunity that
interest you. Lastly this is a job
interview opportunity, so make sure you have prepared clothes that present you
professionally. You don’t want to discover
a food stain on your lucky tie a half hour before you plan on going to the
Career fair.
The day of the Job Fair:
Do one last check in the mirror to make sure nothing is out of place. Inventory your briefcase and make sure you
have; required resumes, calendar, business cards, pens, notepad, and questions
for each employer. Individually greet
employers with enthusiasm and interest in their company; not with friends or
when they are talking to a crowd. Make
sure to ask for the employer's business card and inquire as to how you should best follow-up with her/him.
After of the Job Fair: Complete a log
of contacts and places you applied. Create “Thank You” cards for the individuals
you talked with (contact info from business cards). Schedule time in your calendar to make a
follow up call to the individuals you talked with.

KeyPoint Government Solutions is
currently seeking Department of Homeland Security (DHS) independent
contractor investigators in Gouverneur, NY. Independent Contractors are
self-employed with a varying workload. They conduct background investigations
in support of national security, focusing on casework for Customs and Border
Protection (CBP).
Due to work availability,
independent contractors must reside within 50 miles of the city
of Gouverneur, NY. Candidates not within the mileage range must
include a cover letter listing the timeframe for relocation and
confirming that they will be relocating at their own expense.
Engagements include conducting
background investigations to provide the government with information for the
purpose of determining the employment suitability of persons who require
access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information. Independent
contractors will conduct face-to-face interviews with the subject and his/her
neighbors, employers, friends, and family, as well as perform record searches
at police agencies, courthouses, educational institutions, financial
institutions, and medical/mental health facilities. Information obtained
will be reported in a clear and concise report.

Minimum requirements:
- Candidate experience must meet at
least one of the following three:
- Current/active CBP credential
(Must be as a Contract Background Investigator) preferred
- Minimum of 3 years
of BACKGROUND investigation experience with a
local/state/federal agency within the past 5 years (Does not include
time spent in non-background investigation roles such as criminal
investigations or private investigator experience)
- Current/active OPM credential
with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
- Active federal security
clearance ( SSBI or TS) is preferred; applicants without a clearance must
be prepared to wait 9-12 months for a clearance and must be able to

Veterans Fire Corps Careers
Dear Veteran,
I wanted to let you know that we have positions available
for post-9/11 US Military Veterans with the Student Conservation Association
(SCA) this summer. These immediate openings begin May 25, 2014, and provide
expense-paid career training opportunities. Please pass this information along
to anyone you think may be interested in this unique opportunity.
The Veterans Fire Corps will provide veterans with essential
training, credentials, and experience to competitively pursue careers in
wildland fire and forestry. Participants will work in teams of five with an
experienced SCA Project Leader. Projects may include, but are not limited to,
participation on prescribed fires, fuels reduction, fire effects monitoring,
FIREWISE educational outreach, and pre-fire preparation of burn units. Veterans
Fire Corps teams will serve in National Forests in South Dakota, Wyoming, and
Colorado. Positions begin May 25, 2014. Applications are now being accepted
until all positions are filled.

FUNCTIONS
Responsible for providing New Equipment Training (NET)
assistance, and
evaluation to the unit in planning, and conducting
gunnery and tactics
training IAW the NET plan. Trains, assists and evaluates
units in training,
doctrine, gunnery, tactics and operations unique to the
LAV-25(S) A2
vehicle.
From February 2013 to
February 2014, nonfarm employment increased in 46 states and the District of
Columbia and decreased in 4 states. The largest over-the-year percentage
increase occurred in North Dakota (+4.1 percent), followed by Nevada (+3.6
percent) and Colorado, Florida, and Texas (+2.8 percent each). The largest
over-the-year percentage decreases in employment occurred in Kentucky (-0.3
percent), New Mexico (-0.2 percent), and Alaska (-0.1 percent).
