The Path Less Traveled

The change of season is bringing an increase number of area job listings. Even so, it is still not easy to find good job matches with unemployment rates of 9.7% in St. Lawrence County and 10.5% in Jefferson County (http://labor.ny.gov/stats/PressReleases/county_rates.pdf ).  This is why after exhausting your search on the local job boards (see “Dreams Create the Magic of Life at http://dvopmf.blogspot.com/2014/03/dreams-create-magic-of-life.html?_sm_au_=iVV4rt4jZvHtSQHM ) you may wish to take a step off the beaten path and look at sites that cater to working from home and free lancing work.  To find these job boards you can start with Nancy Collamer’s list, “10 Great Sites To Find Gigs And Part-Time Work” posted on Forbes website at http://www.forbes.com/sites/nextavenue/2014/04/04/10-great-sites-to-find-gigs-and-part-time-work/ . On a side note, Saturday, April 26 is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.  Between 10AM and 2PM on April 26, bring your unwanted prescription drugs to a collection site near you.  Properly disposing of medicines is important to human health and the environment. Serve with SCA’s Veterans Fire Corps and obtain the skills and certifications you need to become competitive in a Wildland Fire and/or forestry career. Projects include fuels reduction, fire effects monitoring, educational outreach, pre-fire preparation of burn units and participation in prescribed fires.
This internship offers multiple field discipline experience such as wildlife ecology, botany and resource management. It includes gathering field data in forest settings, navigating plots with GPS hardware, and managing an Integrated database. Typical team hitches consist of 4 consecutive 10-hour days with 3 days off.
